At just about the same time last year, I was selecting seeds for planting in the garden. Vegetable seeds. I was standing in front of an enormous seed display (a simple pleasure in itself). I chose the basics that I knew would grow well, squash, beans, cucumbers, kale, broccoli, leeks and tomatoes.
Then I came across a packet of seeds for Strawberry Popcorn. I did not need these seeds at all. It was an impulsive buy but I couldn't resist. I guess it was the name and the idea of it, so colourful on a snowy January day.
Fast forward one year.
The tiny cobs from my harvest were in a bowl on the edge of the counter this January. I got out a knife and hulled the first one, and then another.
Into the popcorn popper they went and viola!
A satisfying snack with salt and butter ...and a movie.
A simple pleasure that I grew myself.
