Illustration Friday - Sprout

I do love vintage seed packet art and so that was my inspiration for this week. The very first image that came to mind however, was that of Satsuki and Mei in My Neighbour Totoro, doing their little dance in their garden to make the magic nuts and seeds grow.
The Lad, who is too young to remember the Green Giant tv ads ( "Ho Ho Ho Greeeen Giant!") never the less embraced the idea when his Dad said, "The Little Green Sprout!" when we asked him what was the first thing he thought of when we mentioned the topic for this week.

Illustration Friday - RED

On the highway up to what we Ontarians call "cottage country" there is an abandoned gas station. In the middle of the overgrown weediness sits this red car, eternally waiting for a fill up. Every colour was so muted at this scene, from the peeling white paint of the store and it's greying wood underneath, that I had decided to use no colour at all and orginally drew this in graphite only.
When I went back to it some years later, I was curious to see a little colour, so I brought back the red of the car. I still intend to play with this one.
The Lad is in the middle of exams but I managed to get him out of math study mode (ha!) to do a little red pencil doodle himself. I always love the simple simplicity of drawings of fruit.
Linear equations shall resume at once.

Illustration Friday- Buzz

I've never really shown too much of my artwork on this blog but occasionally someone asks and I always directed them to my website ( currently unavailable.)
So, I thought I would do Illustration Friday. I also thought to get my 15 year old, who goes to an Art Series High School, to join me. This means once a week we post our interpretation of the topic and post them on this blog. Mine is the top one and his is the second. To make it more challenging we set ourselves a time limit - 1 hour. This is what we came up with for this week.
I worked in acrylic on canvas board and he sat at this computer and decided to go graphic. To make it more fun, we hid our artwork from each other until we were both finished.
