Spotted

.....on a country road complete with lovely properties and wild turkeys crossing our path. I wish the pic of the turkeys came out. Have I mentioned the crap camera?
Oh, and these photos - TWO WEEKS OLD.

Spotted here> more bad news.

Spotted in my backyard....

It is shall we say an inappropriate time to be starting anything a quilt but the spirit moved me so I got some scraps and hauled the sewing machine upstairs and had a go at a wonky log cabin square. Log cabin quilts are favourites of mine and I always said my first quilt would be a Log cabin of some incarnation.
Getting the sewing machine out of hiding involved unscrewing it from it's cabinet as it was too heavy to lug the whole thing upstairs by myself and then using the knee pedal between my knees and pushing the lever against a chair seat under the kitchen table. Determined or just crazy? - You be the judge.
Things I have learned from this experience :
I don't like quilted pillows. It's a quilt or nothing.
My inner thighs are stronger than I thought.
Did I get this quilting business out of my system for now?
I'm afraid not.
Also spotted on the couch..

The Dreaded Clapotis. I will finish this scarf before it finishes me. Laceweight...curse, curse...mutter, mutter....

Spotted in the kitchen...

Harvesting. Every year I buy a big basket of red peppers and roast them and freeze them. This year I made an old favourite as well.
Red Pepper Jelly. So good with crackers and cream cheese..and gift giving.

Everyone enjoys the harvest in their own way.

Midsummer Randomness

The kittens are growing into long skinny leggy supermodels - well, supermodels who EAT. A lot. They are spending less time together and more time getting to know us and the world around them.
The girls have taken up knitting.

And shoe eating.

Little Min has made like Peter Rabbit in Mr. McGregor's garden.

She flew out the door one morning when I was letting Brian in, and tore across the patio and let me on a wild goose chase until I finally made my breakfast and just watched her until she decided she had had enough. In her own good time, which was roughly 45 minutes.
They still adore their big boy, Brian.

But they are also really starting to like their human buddies, too.

Saturday's rainy regatta on Centre Island. With a nice chilly wind to finish us off.

After trudging home on Saturday afternoon, all I really wanted was a change of clothes and a NAP, but instead I was pressed into duty as pastry advisor.
The kids have been cleverly bullied (not be me) into a pie making marathon. The Lad was first up with his Peach Blueberry creation. He had never made anything like this and I was surprised he was so keen . He certainly has the Pie Eating Gene from his Papa.
It was a great success. He even took the photos, "For your blog, Mom."

Next up, Littlest is making some variation of Bumbleberry.
And then the kids thought a sushi dinner was in order. So they got busy making it. And a little tempura. ( The hot oil was supervised by me) The miso soup courtesy of the market.
The coffee table was set.

My Neighbour Totoro for after dinner viewing. This was mostly because of Sinda's comment on the last post. We were waiting to see the dangling bits of the catbus. We hadn't noticed this before and we are a noticing sort of family. Do not judge us too harshly.

And yesterday, I scored this at the supermarket.

Notice, already pitted. Not as good as having your own tree, like some people but pretty good.
